George V. (June 3, 1865 – January 20, 1936) was the king of the United Kingdom and British dominions and the Indian emperor from 1910 until his death. He was the first British king of the Windsor dynasty, which he created from the British branch of the Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha dynasty.
He served in the British Navy from the age of twelve, but after the sudden death of his older brother Albert, he became Prince of Wales - the heir to the throne - and married his brother's fiancée Mary of Teck. Although, as a royal couple, they occasionally traveled through the countries of the British Empire, George preferred the conventional lifestyle and spent time with postage stamp collections. >
He ascended the throne after the death of his father Edward VII. in 1910.
