Karel Hynek Mácha (1810-1836) was a Czech Romantic poet and playwright. He is considered one of the most important figures in Czech literature and is often referred to as the "Father of Czech Romanticism". His works are known for their lyrical beauty, intense emotion, and vivid imagery. His most famous work is his long poem Máj (May), which is considered one of the greatest works of Czech literature. Mácha was also an advocate for social reform and was a strong supporter of the Czech National Revival movement. He died at the age of 26 from tuberculosis.
